Dolls are a part of every culture. From the beginning of time, children have played with dolls, using them as friends and confidants, as surrogates while the child recreates domestic situations, and as props for acting.
It is fairly common for children , especially girls in the western society to seen playing with dolls. However , for children in less fortunate countries -this is a luxury. Some of these children are orphans, whilst those with parents have virtually no disposable income to afford dolls.
Tanta Lies Jansen Wigman and other women from Netherland have used their spare time and knitting skills to conjure up various types of dolls for less- fortunate children’s. Women of potential / Florinah’s Orphanage was able to benefit from this project, as they distributed a good amount of dolls in the local community.
For children, the world is full of wonder and discovery; each day is exciting and a chance to explore new and different adventures- these dolls gives them those opportunities to do so.
Throughout all our day to day lives, it is important to take a step back and look through the eyes of a child. This diminishes limitations and encourages difference, which is something all of us can embrace!
